A serious fire in 1838 damaged and or destroyed part of the buildings which were rebuilt to a design by Sydney Smirke

She remodelled and renovated the whole château and was obviously immensely proud of it which is perhaps why Walter Gay was invited along to record it in all its glory

In his lifetime he produced more than sixty plays
